Kissing Moon June 18, 2011

My longing desire beckons
Go kiss the fair faced moon!

Though its reflection lies
beside me
giving forth a priceless smile

than why oblige to go
kiss the fair faced moon?

Smile March 10, 2011

You need not be rich or poor
You need not be of any cast
you need not be of any color
you need not have to be afraid

A smile is all you need
it speaks all language

give it a try!

breeding lilacs out of the dead land,
mixing memory and desire,
stirring dull roots with spring rain.”

holds your hand
in the darkest era

lifts your soul
to the zenith of serenity

yet keeps you touched
to the realm of reality

Hope
is like an air lingering around,
it keeps you breathing

Where do I get Inspiration? August 16, 2009

I have received several emails asking me interesting questions and especially one in particularly tend to be repetitious so I thought I would post it on the blog to share.

Where do I get the inspiration to even begin writing poetry?

inspiration

First and foremost I’m not an expert on teaching but I can surely give you my version of exploring Inspiration. Let me make it clear that inspiration comes in many forms it can be adopted from almost anywhere and everywhere you just need the imagination to make it yours and explore or expend on it. Few simple ways to be inspired would be by something of your own interest, something that you absolutely love or love doing. For example, by music, reading or seeing something that absolutely takes your breath away, traveling or being inspired by places and ofcourse by people/role model/mentor/guru etc. An Inspiration can be as simple as what eyes see and —— and as complex as unseen imagination. Anyhow when you do find something inspires you grab a pen and paper and begin writing what you can and try to expand with your own thoughts on it.

inspiration

To sum up in short:
Instead of going out and seeking inspiration, Inspiration is something that should come to you from within!
One question people have asked me over and over again is where do I get my inspiration from?

It sure is hard to explain in few words where I get my inspiration from so I thought I would rather answer that question by giving an example of my very own creation that way I can’t go wrong and I’m able to help others to expand their creative thoughts into poetry. So here it is.
Being a little sufi minded that I am and you will probably see lot of my poems shows a little glimpse of it. Having said that I’m selecting “Perfect You”(one of my poem) and how it came to its existence. I have my ever so favorite lines from a song sung by nusrat fateh ali khan and lyrics written by Mohammad Iqbal Naqibi. The first time I heard those line it instantly became mine and I explored it in my own way by questioning it and putting some of my own thoughts in it. Here are the lines:

Urdu:
Yeh zami jab na thi aasama jab na tha
chaand suraj na the…aasman jab na tha,
Raaz-e-haq bhi kisi per ayaan jab na tha
kuch na tha tab yeha…tha magar tu hi tu

Translation:
When this earth and world did not exist
When there was no moon, sun or sky
When the secret of the truth was yet unravelled
When there was nothing, there was you…only you

Upon hearing the lines above I thought about that “only you” and how ‘I’ would come in the picture and that’s when “Perfect You” was born

PERFECT YOU
Ocean as a Universe
and a drop of water
I am.
But, what am I
when I unite
with pure perfection?
Where you as pure ocean,
Oh unseen
and myself as a lyrical drop

with a desire to blend
and dwell

in you,
only you.

Additional ways of Inspiration
I recently came across a site of a wonderful artist Audette Sophia who is also a writer, creative educator, performing artist, wornderful person at heart and the list goes on and on. Thank you for allowing me to share your article “15 Great Inspiration Sources” on my blog.

I really hope this helps you all and in many ways.

Reincarnation of Poetry.com April 23, 2009

Poetry.com previously owned by Watermark Media, one of the most popular and largest poetry site on web was bought out by Lulu . I have to say without any doubt that lots of poets and writers relied on that site to learn and share their work. So on hearing the news it upset a lot of poets and writers since they won’t be able to connect with other poets and submit their work in contests run by poetry.com.

However, here’s the great news I found out last week…
“Self-publishing site Lulu has re-launched the site http://www.Poetry.com, where users can connect with other poets and digitally publish their own verse at no cost. The site resembles Lulu.com in that it is targeted toward writers who want to connect with their peers and have access to resources to receive reviews and feedback on their work.”

And yes…the spokesperson of Lulu also said they would start adding new features in future months.
So hopefully ‘Lulu Poetry’ is just another incarnation of Poetry.com and we all get lot more out of Lulu Poetry.

I can’t wait to expore Lulu Poetry

Poetry Formation February 26, 2009

So what is a poem made of?

A poem is made of but not limited to:
A little insperation (keeping imagination in mind)
“Lucky events”
Clarification (of truth)

See it through the eyes of Robert Frost and his way of striping the poetry to its skin and showing the formation of it through his quotes. Having that said I like to dedicate this post to kptimes.

Recent blog posted by Kunal Patel (a journalist in making) goes into a little more detail in his article – “Poetry Through Specific Eyes”

I’ll leave you with yet another quote:
“Poetry is a way of taking life by the throat.” – by Robert Frost who pointed out that “each poem clarifies something”

From poetry to Art January 28, 2009

Human being is one perfect piece of art!

It was just yesterday I had an opportunity to visit the exhibit of the human body. I have only one word to describe what my eyes saw…Extraordinary!

I cannot express every detail of what I saw but I can surely tell you what I got out of it.
In our day to day busy life (or we make it to be busy) we don’t realize how our body works & how essential role each organ plays in functioning the way it does.

I was truly amazed and appreciate the fact that creator of the human being is one the greatest artist…I mean how amazing is it to know that all the blood vessels (Arteries, Veins & Capillaries) in our body if laid out in one line it would be stretched out to over 60,000 miles. There are many examples like above that are inspiring, mind blowing and seems out of this world which makes one appreciate the beauty, the engineering and architectural phenomenon of the body. I have to say I appreciate my life at its full form and I have to give it to the brain behind the creation of a human being.

Khudaa ne Itminaan se
Banaaya tujko pyar se
Sajaaya hai bahar se
Banaaya apne haath se

I’ll leave you with that and some facts of interest straight from the human body exhibit site:

Did You Know?

• It takes about 1 minute for a red blood cell to circle the whole body
• A human being loses an average of 40 to
100 strands of hair a day.
• A cough releases an explosive charge of
air that moves at speeds up to 60 mph.

• Every time you lick a stamp, you consume 1/10 of a calorie.

• A fetus acquires fingerprints at the age ofthree months.• A sneeze can exceed the speed of 100 mph.• Every person has a unique tongue print.
• According to German researchers, the risk of heart attack is higher on Monday than
any other day of the week.
• After spending hours working at a computer display, look at a blank piece of
white paper. It will probably appear pink.
• An average human drinks about 16,000
gallons of water in a lifetime.

• A fingernail or toenail takes about 6
months to grow from base to tip.
• An average human scalp has 100,000 hairs.
• It takes 17 muscles to smile and 43 to frown.
• Babies are born with 300 bones, but by
adulthood we have only 206 in our bodies.
• Beards are the fastest growing hairs on the human body. If the average man never trimmed his beard, it would grow to nearly
30 feet long in his lifetime.

• By age sixty, most people have lost half of their taste buds. By the time you turn 70, your heart will have beat some two-and-a-half billion times (figuring on an average
of 70 beats per minute.)
• Each square inch of human skin consists
of twenty feet of blood vessels.
• Every human spent about half an hour as
a single cell.
• Every square inch of the human body has
an average of 32 million bacteria on it.

• Fingernails grow faster than toenails.
• Humans shed about 600,000 particles of skin every hour – about 1.5 pounds a year. By 70 years of age, an average person will have
lost 105 pounds of skin.

Amazing Lung Facts
• At rest, a person breathes about 14 to 16 times per minute. After exercise it could
increase to over 60 times per minute.
• New babies at rest breathe between 40 and 50 times per minute. By age five it

decreases to around 25 times per minute.
• The total surface area of the alveoli (tiny air
sacs in the lungs) is the size of a tennis court.
• The lungs are the only organ in the body
that can float on water.
• The lungs produce a detergent-like substance which reduces the surface
tension of the fluid lining, allowing air in.

Amazing Heart Facts
• Your heart is about the same size as your fist.
• An average adult body contains about five
quarts of blood.
• All the blood vessels in the body joined end to end would stretch 62,000 miles or
two and a half times around the earth.
• The heart circulates the body’s blood
supply about 1,000 times each day.
• The heart pumps the equivalent of 5,000 to 6,000 quarts of blood each day.

I highly recommend to you to visit the Human body exhibition if time permits and/of if possible. It sure is a wonder to see and experience with your own eyes.

Good day!
